Condolences

Condolence From: John Svendsen
Condolence: For over 26 years we have been fortunate to call Joanna our "friend" -- and in those 26 years Joanna was always an understated ray of sunshine. Smart, pragmatic, loyal, modest, honest and "tough as nails" are just a few of the adjectives we could use to describe Joanna -- always a kind word, always uplifting, even when her spirits were low. She offered advice and would lead one to water -- but she'd never force anyone to drink or do or think a particular way -- her motto was seemingly "be true unto thyself" and that is how she lived. We last saw Joanna just a few weeks ago. She had some pressing personal matters that would distract most of us but Joanna had focus: all she could talk about was getting the opportunity to visit with family for the holidays -- everything else could wait. Joanna made the trip and was graced with time -- albeit way too little -- to spend with family and friends in Vermont. We will miss Joanna. She had a major influence on our lives -- she made us better people and will always have a place in our hearts. We extend our blessings to all her family and friends in expressing our condolences and know that she is surrounded by loved ones and friends in heaven -- some of which have fur. We love you Joanna.

Condolence: Joanna was my next door neighbor, and I will miss her. She was such a dear, generous neighbor -- always with a kind word and wise advice. I'm thankful for having known her and having been able to share our pet stories through her years in our neighborhood in Little Rock. I love the picture you have posted of Joanna here. She still had that mischievous smile! I've shared with some of our neighbors that we lost "Joanna who walked her Great Danes." She was so faithful to walk her dogs around the area that everybody knew her face - if not her name. She always stopped to speak to the dogs being walked - and their humans. We will all miss her. My sincere condolences to the family.

Condolence: I am so very sorry to hear about Joanna. I have many fond memories from past Christmas gatherings, whether it was watching her roll her eyes at something my father said or reminding my mother that she was younger. She was the first 'real' biologist I knew, and I always enjoyed talking with her. She will be sorely missed.

Condolence: I am one of Joanna's neighbors, and she was always very friendly and sweet. Anytime I passed by her while taking my daughter and dog for a walk, she always commented on my beautiful family, and made sure that I knew she was including my dog. I will miss seeing her around.
