Condolences

Condolence From: Paul Nad Sharlene Magnarella
Condolence: Dear Ann and Family, Sharlene and I were saddened to learn of Don’s passing. We remember fondly our visit to your lovely home back in 2008. Don and you were so very hospitable. I had known Don since the 1950s when we both attended Crosby High School in Waterbury, Connecticut. We connected again many years later when Don was Assistant Principal at Essex Junction High School and I was teaching at the University of Vermont. He greatly enjoyed reestablishing ties with friends. In fact, our last conversations were about the possibility of having one more Crosby High reunion. I’ll always remember Don as a fine person, a loving husband and father, and a pillar of his community. His passing is a great loss to many, but, I am sure, you will have many happy memories to treasure in his absence. With love and compassion, Paul and Sharlene Magnarella (3957 NW 27 Lane, Gainesville, FL 32606; 352-226-8907.

Condolence From: Mike Reilly
Condolence: Dear Mrs. Messier, I knew you husband well enough and feel his passing as a loss. Fortunately we both shared a firm belief in the next life and a joy for it. As a widower myself, I can empathize with your feelings. However, God is looking over us both and we have a bright future to look forward to with our former spouses. It will go on an on. I say an occasional hello to my late wife and I know she can hear it even if she cannot reply. Time will fly as it has in the past, so we can both hope for a comforting reunion soon. Take Heart, Mike Reilly

Condolence: Little did I know that when we chatted on Sunday at JP's Diner in Essex that we would be chatting for the very last time. Not many people refer me as Lieutenant Colonel anymore....but Mr Messier respected that fact that it was an earned position and always called me "Colonel"....which NEVER failed to make me smile. My thoughts and prayers are with his family during this very difficult time.

Condolence: Mr. Messier was a man that I highly respected, and wished I could have spent more time with his council. He helped me as a teenager, solving my problems with respectful compassion and without a shred of judgement. I remember his acts of mentor-ship and kindness to this day. Rest in Peace Mr. Messier!

Condolence: Ann, I can't tell you how shocked and saddened I was to read of Don's passing from here in California. We all go back a long way from our days as neighbors in Pinehurst sharing tales of our teaching experiences for DOD. He was a gifted man who lived his beliefs. May you find comfort and peace in your faith and the sure knowledge that he has gone home. Bev and Fred

Condolence: Mr. Messier (Don) was not only everything that the obituary stated but he also loved to trout fish and ice fish. I was honored to be able to show him some of the great fishing spots very close to his Jericho home as well as to share and ice fishing shanty and some whopping fish stories. I remember well the day he caught a fish too big to bring up through the hole in the ice. How he found such a small hole to drop his line through is beyond me, but some quick work with an auger and some wet sleeves and we landed one of the biggest perch I've seen come out of Lake Champlain. I'll certainly miss him.
