Obituary for Nicholas Stephen Lizewski

Nicholas Stephen Lizewski
Nicholas Stephen Lizewski, 21, of Essex Junction, passed way as a result of a car accident on Tuesday, September 26, 2017. Nick was born in Burlington on December 14, 1995; the son of Stephen O. and Katrina L. (Hanson) Lizewski.
At a young age, Nicholas was a devoted WWE fan. He was committed to watching these events occurring four days a week. He perfected his negotiating skills with his Dad and brother, Stephen. Some of his favorite WWE superstars included “The Rock”, “John Cena”, and “Brock Lesnar”.
As Nick matured, he came to realize that the WWE was purely entertainment and was introduced to the MMA. To this day, Nick was a devoted fan. Some of his favorite MMA fighters included Quintin Rampage, Anderson Silva and Randy Couture.
One of his greatest personality traits was his exceptional social skills. Mrs. Cudney, his kindergarten teacher, commented during a parent teacher conference that she could put him with any student knowing that it would be beneficial to the entire class. This trait followed him into the work place which allowed him to excel with fellow employees.
His enjoyable outdoor activities included swimming, hunting, fishing and riding his bicycle, which became his primary transportation until he got his driver’s license.
Nick was a graduate of Essex High School, Class of 2014. He received also a certificate of completion from the Center for Technology in the Auto Tech program. He had a knack for taking things apart, but often required Dad’s or Dante’s assistance in putting them back together.
Nick got his first construction job with Engineers Construction, Inc. He worked on the culvert placement project on Route 5 in East Ryegate, Vermont. This was the deepest excavation ever performed in the State of Vermont. The older workers took him under their wing and taught him the ropes about site construction. It wasn’t long before he earned their respect and was given the responsibility of running the grout pump, which was an integral part of installing the sheeting tie-back system. It was also where he learned to work with water in below freezing temperatures (not fun). While he really loved the job with ECI, having to be away from his family and friends five days a week took its toll on him and he left that job. Over the next two summers he worked for Desroches Construction Services and Don Weston Excavating as a general laborer. He made many friends with both companies and they still ask how he was doing when he moved onto work for Grand Island Nursery, owned by the Viens Family.
Nick and Dante worked as a team planting trees for the nursery out of state. Nick really enjoyed this type of work which was not for the faint of heart as they were paid by the tree planted not by the hour. The job offered him the opportunity to travel, meet new and interesting people, earn a good pay check and doing it all with his best friend.
Nick really respected Shane and Rob Viens as they were more than just his boss. They often included him in social activities, his favorite was going to the Vermont Buck’s football games with them.
He leaves his father Stephen O; two brothers Stephen B. and Shannon Letendre and wife Michaela; his paternal grandparents Steve and Gisele (Leduc) Lizewski; his maternal grandfather Brian Hanson and partner Gail Greer; two uncles Brian Lizewski; Shannon Hanson and wife Amy; two aunts Lori Ann (Lizewski) Glass and husband George; Angela (Hanson) Love and husband Rennie; nine cousins including Dante Hanson who was in Nick’s heart, his third brother; many great-aunts and great-uncles. He was predeceased by his mother, Katrina in May 2013 and maternal grandmother, Colleen in December 2005.
Janet McSweeney held a special place in Nick’s heart as he considered her to be his second mother.
A special thanks to the Essex Fire Department and Police Department for their compassion and professionalism on that dreadful night.
In lieu of a wake or funeral, a Celebration of Life, will be held on Sunday, October 1, 2017 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the VFW Post 6689, Pearl Street, Village of Essex Junction. The VFW will offer soda and adult beverages at a nominal fee (no BYOB allowed), with the exception of infant formula and juices for young children (whose parents object to soda). The food will be potluck.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions, in Nick’s memory, may be made to the The Village of Essex Junction Fire Department.
The family also invites you to share your memories and condolences by visiting www.awrfh.com.
