Shirley passed away on Monday, January 22, 2018 at the age of 77 after battling with several health conditions for a long time. Shirley was born in Eden, Vermont on August 22, 1940, the daughter of farmers Hughie Mclean and Beatrice (Ingalls) McLean.
Shirley married in 1957 and worked on a farm for many years and had five children. She divorced and continued to worked as a seamstress for Concord Manufacturing in Morrisville, Vermont and sewed for over 30 years. After retiring from sewing, she ran her own cleaning business in Morrisville, Vermont for over 10 years before retiring to Florida. She moved to Port Charlotte, FL in 2011 and lived there until 2016. For a brief period, while in Florida, she worked as a receptionist for a social service provider. In 2016 she moved back to Vermont to be with her remaining family and settled in as a resident at the Maple Street Apartments in Hardwick, Vermont were she had many friends.
Shirley loved music and dancing, early on in her life she learned to play the guitar, there were many weekend jamborees of family and friends getting together to play different instruments, from the guitar, bass guitar, banjo, fiddle and the accordion; there was singing and dancing, a celebration for all. She was an avid gardener and prided herself on the beautiful gardens that she planted and even had a vegetable garden last year and was so happy to can and make her pickles, like she had done while living on the farm. She loved interior decorating and decorated every home she had and did her own painting and hung wall paper and even put down floors. With her love of flowers, she took a class on arranging flowers and made many beautiful bouquets. Shirley had a outgoing and young spirit and enjoyed life when feeling well, she loved casinos, bingo, travelling and the times with her family and friends.
Shirley is survived by her children, her son, Darrin (Moon) Judkins and his wife Brenda (Boardman) Judkins (who was like a daughter to Shirley) of Hardwick, VT, her daughter, Merrie Gagnon and her husband Marc Gagnon of Fort Myers Beach, FL, her daughter Sherrie Bull of Morrisville, VT, her daughter-in-law Catherine (Grimes) Judkins (widow of Terry L. A graveside service will be held at a later date in the summer of 2018 with a celebration of her life after the service for all family and friends, this is due to the fact that some family cannot be here until then. Shirley is in the care of A.W. Funeral Services of Essex Junction, VT and Fairfax, VT and condolences for the family can be left on their website: www.awrichfuneralhomes.com.
The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for her at Copley Hospital during her many stays with the last one being for 22 days. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your local food shelves.
