Obituary for David J. Fisher

David J. Fisher
David J. Fisher of North Hero, VT passed away peacefully from cancer on August 17, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. David was born in Burlington on March 7, 1959, the son of the late Paul Joseph and Marcia (Hazen) Fisher. He spent his early childhood in Greenfield Park, Quebec attending grammar school and playing hockey with his three brothers. As a child,David enjoyed weekends with his grandparents at the old family homestead on Lake Champlain in North Hero. These visits were filled with; games in the old barn, building tree houses, skating on the frozen swamp throughout the woods, bonfires, games of kick the can in the road and even the occasional ice floe jumping contest in the spring. Perch fishing with Mim Fisher, where catching the occasional eel was always an experience, and driving his Grandpa Jim to the store when he was only 12, were some of his favorites.
David graduated Rice Memorial High School in 1976 and started his pharmaceutical career as the General Manager of City Drug. After landing a great job right out of high school, his good fortune continued, as this is where he met the love of his life and future wife, Sue. After a couple of years, David was offered a new opportunity at Burlington Drug Co.as a salesman. His hard work and determination lead to his promotion to Director of Sales. He retired in this position after 39 years. David’s passion throughout his career resulted in many relationships that turned into lasting friendships.
David married Susan R. Bristol on June 5, 1982 in Essex Junction. They spent many wonderful years in Vermont raising Dianna and Sarah, their two daughters. Camping from the beginning of their relationship lead to several wet tents, deflated air mattresses to a thirty-foot camper with a/c. All those special outings resulted in a plethora of laughter, camp fires, s’mores with peanut butter, steak and lobster dinners, and peaceful star filled nights. Whether the Fishers and extended friends went to the group party site of North Hero State Park, the front yard of Nana and Papa’s or the sandy beaches of Maine, “Fun Bob” would always appear.
Later on in life David and Sue treasured their trips to Florida where they enjoyed their evenings with cherished friends listening to their favorite band, Ted Stevens and the Doo Shots. David also loved flying his drones and riding his Segway to Happy Hour. There he became a member of the Elks Lodge #1511.
David was a wonderful, warm, incredibly bright man with a contagious laugh, his sense of humor benefited everyone he touched. David made everyone feel important, valued, and special for the reason he was genuinely interested in others and what interested them. He always had faith and maintained a sarcastic sense of humor. He made a lasting impression on everyone he met, from his customers turned friends, to his nurses, doctors and of course, his loving family and large circle of friends. Without a doubt, our world is a better place because of David Fisher.

The family would like to send a special thanks to the pain clinic and oncology team, the staff on Shep 4 and in IR as well as the VNA of Chittenden County.

David is survived by his loving wife of 36 years Susan Fisher of North Hero, his two daughters, Dianna Fisher and Jerry Chamberlain of Colchester, Sarah Tranby and husband Paul of New York, New York, three brothers Tony Fisher and wife Ann of Alburgh, Michael Fisher of South Burlington, Doug Fisher and wife Debi of Colchester, his father and mother-in-law Wesley and Ruth Bristol of Essex Junction, two brothers-in-law Arthur and Susan Bristol of Underhill, Lee and Carol Bristol of Essex Junction, several treasured aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and his faithful companions Charlie, Mikey and grand-dog Lawrence.

A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 23,, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Anne’s Shrine, Isle La Motte. Memorial contributions may be made in David’s memory to Cancer Patient Support Foundation, P.O. Box 1804, Williston, VT 05495 or Golden Huggs Rescue, Inc. P.O. Box 299, Waitsfield, VT 05673.
