Obituary for Bruce R. Haskin Sr.

Bruce R Haskin Sr. of Richmond, Vermont, 83, took his own life on August 14, 2021 after a short battle with terminal cancer. While this is tragic, if you knew him well, then you know he did everything on his own terms. Bruce’s death was not going to be any different. He was born on July 12, 1938 in Buffalo, NY. Bruce graduated with a B.A. from Canisius college in Buffalo in 1962. He enlisted in the Army and was honorably discharged in 1964. After his discharge, he moved to Maryland, where he taught English in Prince George’s County. After teaching for a few years, he started work at Bell Aerosystems as a technical writer/proof reader. Bruce started work at IBM as a programmer/educator in 1969. He met Jeanann (Pirrone) in 1967, while they were both working for Bell; they were married on June 14, 1969. Bruce retired from IBM in 1991. Bruce was an avid reader, loved genealogy, debating religion and politics, enjoyed cooking, and loved everything related to the military history, firearms, and his computer. He was a past member of the Vermont State Guard, and had been a firearms safety instructor. Bruce leaves behind his wife of 52 years, Jeanann; his daughter Jennifer of Yorktown, VA; sons, Bruce II of Williston, VT, Ian in AZ, Bill in Amherst, NY; grandsons, Alex, Jason, Josh and Jonathan and his cat, Elvira. Bruce will be dearly missed by his family, but we are happy he is now without pain and is at peace. He was predeceased by his mother and father, William and Mildred, and his brother Douglas.

Per Bruce’s wishes, there will be no services. If you wish to make a donation in his honor, please donate to an organization of your choice.
