We were shocked to read of Doug's passing in today's Burlington Free Press. It was only two weeks ago when a few of us (Kitty Blakey Clark; Bev Wrisley Boutin; Walt Godfrey; Fred Fletcher; and our teacher Betty Learned MacDowell) met for lunch and to plan a First and Second Grade Reunion Picnic for this summer. There were 23 first and second graders that had Mrs. MacDowell as their teacher and we all loved her and she loved us, as we were her first class. Just last week we looked up Doug's address and phone number and we were going to give him a call to tell him about the planned summer reunion of going to school 65 years ago. We know that he will be there in spirit and our thoughts and prayers are with all his family. Fred Fletcher told us that the McClellan boys, John and Doug, used to attend the Underhill ID school but then the town decided that they were suppose to go to the Underhill Central School in Underhill Center, which they did, but I always had strong memories of the McClellan Family. I to used to hunt on the McClellan Farm and in their woods, mostly after they moved to Poker Hill but I always remember seeing Peter, John, Doug and Lee as well as Don hunting their. I never shot a deer there but certainly saw and shot at some. The boys were always friendly and Doug always had that friendly smile on his face. I saw Doug a few years ago, I think he was delivering parts for one of the parts stores in Essex, we talked about the "good ole days"...I am going to miss that man!
