Obituary for Yolanda “Yo” Marilyn (Klein) Sweeney

Yolanda “Yo” Marilyn Sweeney, 64, of Burlington passed away peacefully at the McClure Miller Respite House in Colchester on Sunday August 7th 2022 with her family by her side. She was born on December 26th, 1957, in Chula Vista, California, the daughter of William and Marie (Lascelles) Klein. She married the love of her life Cecil Sweeney on August 1st, 1981. Yo worked at many local banks over the years and became close friends with many of her regular customers.

Yo had a green thumb, she enjoyed gardening and landscaping her home with beautiful flowers. She looked forward to the summers, especially taking trips to explore the southern coast of Maine. She loved going to Nubble Lighthouse, eating salt water taffy and lobster rolls, a treat she enjoyed until the end. Yo will be most remembered for the unconditional love and support that she had for her family, friends and beloved dogs Max and Molly. She lit up every room she walked into with her infectious smile and quick wit. Of all the accomplishments in her life she was most proud of being a grandmother to three granddaughters and cherished every moment spent with them.

Yolanda is survived by her husband of 41 years Cecil Sweeney of Burlington VT; two sons, Derek Sweeney and his fiancée Amanda Parent of St. Albans VT and Adam Sweeney and his wife Alyssa Crockett of Plattsburgh NY; and three granddaughters Adeline and Olivia Sweeney of St. Albans and Elodie Sweeney of Plattsburgh NY. Yolanda also leaves behind many brothers and sisters in laws, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents William and Gloria Klein, and brother Glenn Klein.

The family would like to thank everyone at UVM Medical Center specifically the Oncology department, the staff on McClure 5 and The McClure Miller Respite house for their compassionate care of Yolanda.

A private celebration of life will be held at the family’s convenience. Those wishing to make donations may do so to the Humane Society of Chittenden County or to any local animal shelter.
