Obituary for James Clayton Giffin III

James Clayton Giffin, 23, of Fairfax, VT passed away unexpectedly on Saturday August 20th, 2022. James was born on November 9, 1998 at Hoffman Estates Medical Center in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. He was lovingly called James, Jim and JC by those who knew him. Growing up, he had the opportunity to live in several different states. James graduated from Essex High School in Essex Junction, Vermont in 2017.

James was kind, funny, artistic and extremely creative. He enjoyed playing sports and excelled in the high jump in school. He always felt at home when he was in the mountains and while enjoying nature. Memories created while spending time in the Pacific Northwest will be treasured by the entire Lotspeich family. As will the memories of summertime fun in Chicago for the Giffin’s. Family time was cherished and will never be forgotten.

James had many interests including race cars (and favorite driver Dale Earnhardt Jr.), computers, movies, food and music. His knowledge and love of music was vast and covered many genres and eras. James played the drums, and was also learning guitar and keyboard. Most of all he loved spending time with his friends. He was caring, empathetic, supportive and loyal. James especially enjoyed spending time with his best friend and love, Natalie Straw of South Burlington, VT. She was a bright, shining light in his life.

Even though James’ time here on Earth was cut short, the time that he spent with people was very impactful. He made a difference in the lives of others. His kindness and sense of humor deeply touched those who were blessed to know him. He will be greatly missed and is loved by many.

James is survived by his devoted mother, Connie Lotspeich (David Langlois); loving father, James C. Giffin, Jr. (Karen Olsen-Schwanert); beloved brother, Shea Giffin; Step-siblings, Alex (Chelsea), Alyssa, Samantha, Tatum and Alexis; Grandmother, Sally Giffin; Grandfather, Wayne Lotspeich; Aunts Kim Michelson (Don), Karen Grow (Kevin), Tawnya McCullough, and Misty Keller (Daniel); Uncles Jim Michelson and Wayne Lostpeich (Rhonda); as well as many cousins, extended family, friends and loved ones.

He was preceded in death by his Grandmother, Carol Lotspeich; Grandfather, James C. Giffin, Sr.; and Uncle, Joseph McCullough.

A service was held in Chicago and a private family celebration will be planned in Washington in the future. The family invites you to share any memories or stories that you would like at www.awrfh.com.
