Obituary for John Elmer Mauger III

John Elmer Mauger III, 67, of Essex, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2022, in Burlington, VT. He was surrounded by his family when he took his final breaths.

He was born in Pottstown, PA on February 19, 1955, to John and Elizabeth Mauger Jr.

John was an inquisitive, compassionate, and adventurous person. He graduated from Owen J. Roberts High School in 1973 and attended Lincoln Technical Institute to study electrical engineering. John married the love of his life, Carol Weltzin, on March 24, 1979. He used his technical skills to get a job with IBM, which led to the couple moving to Essex, VT. His first child, John, was born in 1981 with Jeffery following in 1983 and Mary in 1984. John was Scout Master of Troop 635 for many years, leading numerous scouts to the rank of Eagle. An active member of First Congregational Church of Essex Junction, John sang with the choir and the groups Men at First and Finally at First. He was also an avid cyclist and enjoyed adventures with Carol such as bicycling around Cape Cod. John was the Vice President of the Burlington Amateur Radio and volunteered for the MS150 in Vermont and New Jersey. A man of many talents, he also played too many parts to name with the Essex Community Players and Lyric Theater Company.

John was predeceased by his loving wife, Carol, and his parents, John and Elizabeth Mauger Jr.

John is survived by his children John Mauger IV and his wife, Kelly, of Jefferson, NJ; Jeffery Mauger of Essex, VT; and Mary Mauger and Jerry Hill of Colchester, VT; sister Elizabeth Mauger Young of Birdsboro PA and brother Robert Mauger husband of Sheila of Royersford PA and his grandchildren Aurora, Lorelai, Wyatt, Christina, Quinn, Everett, Cullen, and Silas.

Friends and Family may call from 2:30 to 3 P.M. on Saturday, September 24th at First Congregational Church, 39 Main St. Essex Jct., VT with a service at 3 P.M. and a reception immediately following.

Memorial contributions can be made in John's honor to First Congregational Church of Essex Junction.”
