Words are inadequate in describing our heartfelt sadness and sorrow at the death of our close friend, Mike Stanton, and that we cannot attend his memorial service in person to pay a final tribute, adds to this sadness. For over forty-five years, we were blessed to know Mike, to share past holidays, birthdays, and many celebrations. Mike was a part of our lives, whether it was playing bridge, hitting the golf course, trading recently read books, or even accompanying a friend on a deer hunting excursion (imagine that one). We will miss his quick, dry wit; his stubborn and determined spirit; his loyalty; his love for the Red Sox, even when they disappointed him (well, okay, maybe he did switch to the Atlanta Braves, but we feel that was a temporary glitch); his sometimes irascible nature, which always made us laugh. Yes, without a doubt, we will miss you, Mike. With that said, we plan to mix up a batch of Rusty Nails and drink to our friend. Rest in peace, dear friend, and know that you had an impact on more than one person in your circle of life.

My brother, Dag, who died in 1994, was a good friend of Mike's, and would send his condolences if he could, and may be doing so in spirit. My husband, Harry, and I enjoyed many visits with Mike & Paul during Dag's life and afterward, and heard about his relatives, but we didn't get to meet. We send our condolences to all of you. Our daughter, Heidi, who went to college at Saint Michael's, got married there last year (Mike & Paul attended), and recently moved to Colchester, VT to teach, will try to attend the memorial service to represent our family. Some of my mother's paintings still hang in his house.

Both my husband and I were classmates of Michael's (Essex Junction High School 1955). I remember during one senior English class we were discussing brands (why, I don't know) and Michael went to the board (no laptops then) and wrote DD. No one could figure out the meaning until he said "pair of DD's" which was actually his brand for my last name, Paradee. How clever! He was instrumental in organizing our 50th class reunion in 2005 and it was a great success. He was smart, articulate and successful. We will miss him. Marlene and Bob Davison, Stowe
