I grew up in Vermont and went to Essex Junction High School. As a scared 16 year old looking for a part-time job, my first, and after going to a few other stores, I went to Carroll's Pharmacy. In my scared voice I asked Mr. Von Sitas if he was looking for any help. He said "as a matter of fact I am". It was much later that he told me, he actually did not need anybody but when he saw how scared I was, he hired me on the spot. I continued to work for Mr. Von Sitas after I married until I moved away shortly after. My father had died when I was 12 and Mr. Von Sitas became my father figure. He encouraged me and I always knew he was there if I needed anything. He always went home for dinner at the supper hour and I would be alone in the store for a short time. His son being a joker as I remember, set all the alarm clocks behind the counter on the shelves to go off all at the same time. There I was waiting on a customer and they started to ring. I was mortified, how they both laughed when they came back. I remember a parent coming in with a prescription for their sick child, who would be standing by their side. The parent and child looked so sad and embarrassed has they had no money to pay for the prescription. Mr. Von Sitas filled it anyway. I will never forget Edward Von Sitas and his wonderful family.

Sandy and Phyllis Ted and Family, It is wth great sadness to hear about the loss of Edward (Doc). Ed was one of the most kind people I have known. Dearest Phyllis, Sandi & Ed, Ted and Family: While feeling great sadness in the loss of your dear Edward, I pray in time that you will feel warmed with joy for having been fortunate enough to have had him in your lives. He is a gift that I have treasured since the day I met him. I was priviledged to share Civil War stories, take the Deputy Sheriff's course wih him and work with him and Phyllis at the pharmacy. Story shared: The Train that never came

One of my fond memories Ed has left me with was , the train ride,in the mid 70's Ed wanted to take the children on. Ed, Sandy,myself, Kim, Karen,Sarah and Paul all went to Burlington to take a train ride. I think it was to Vergens and back. We stood there and waited a very long time, but the train never came. I don't know who was more disappinted Ed or the 4 children. Just one of the many fond memories of Ed that I have had over the years. He did enjoy his grandchildren and loved children in general. Sandy & ED, Phyllis, Ted, and Grandchildren & G. Grandchildren It is of great sorrow I learned of the passing of your Dad Husband and Grandfather and G.Grandfather. There will be a very large void to fill with Ed's passing. Ed was one of the kindest people I know. I worked for Ed in High School and at Carrol's Pharmacy. Until I started my family. Ed was very dedicated to those close to him family and friends and to his community. Ed & Phyllis were very giving to me through those years, and I always appreciated what he gave to others. My Grampa rocked! Some of my earliest memories are being bounced on his knee in his red leather chair while singing to me. He smoked his pipe, peeled my oranges and away we would bounce while watching TV together. He never seemed to tired to play with us and enjoyed watching us drag out every doll, toy and dress up outfit. He was always there. At the end I hope he felt he was given the care he provided to all of us as we grew up. We love him and always will. Kim

Ed VonSitas was my Grandfather. Most people know him from his involvement in the community, but I am fortunate to have known a whole other part of him. He always put his family first and was the most giving & generous man. It was endless. He once brought my sister and her friend to an Aerosmith rock concert in Montreal when he was in in his 70's and slept through the whole thing! We would joke that it was the most expensive nap he ever took! He spent years traveling to historic battlefields and sites. Always with his grandchildren in tow. We always had a blast wherever he brought us. He made everything an experience and fun no matter what it was. The stories are endless about this man that I am extremely proud to have spent 42 years calling my Grandfather. As he would say about all the stories, "I have a million of them". My Grandfather was a very rare and special person whose love and spirit will be with us forever.
