Obituary for Charles Stanley Owens

Charles Stanley Owens
CHARLES S. OWENS - WATERBURY CENTER

Charles "Charlie" S. Owens, 81, died May 31, 2015. He passed away peacefully at home with his family at his side, after a six month battle with Lung Cancer. Charles was born in South River, New Jersey on November 7, 1933. He was the eldest son of Stanley and Emma Owens.

He served two years in the US Army, and was stationed in Germany. Following his honorable discharge, he worked for E.R. Squibb in New Jersey. After that, he went to work for IBM, and then spent 31 years with IBM at various locations (Dayton, NJ; Manassas, VA; and Essex Jct, VT). He retired from IBM in 1990. Following his retirement from IBM, he worked part time for Green Mountain Messenger, and most recently for Shaws in Waterbury.

Charlie was both a Mason and a Shriner. He was a long time member of the Palestine (Masonic) Lodge in New Jersey, and a lifetime member of Cairo (Shriners) Temple in Rutland, Vermont. He was very proud to be a part of the wonderful work of the Shriners Hospitals for Children.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Sandra J. Owens. He is also survived by his two daughters: Kathryn Owens-Martin of Waterbury Center, and Ellen Corbiere of Swanton; four grandchildren: Christopher Martin of Waterbury Center, Cassandra Martin-Dindo and her husband Christopher Dindo of Waterbury, Danielle and Kendall Corbiere of Swanton. Also surviving are his two youngest brothers: James Owens and his wife Linda of Trenton, New Jersey and Richard Owens of Hopewell Junction, New York; sister-in-law Kathy Owens of Roebling, New Jersey; brother-in-law Carl Ochs Jr and his wife Sue of Roebling, New Jersey; and several nieces and nephews

He was predeceased by his grandparents, parents, and two brothers: Jack Owens and William Owens; sister-in-law Fran Owens; father-in-law/mother-in-law Carl Ochs Sr and Jean Ochs; and brother-in-law Timothy Ochs.

Charlie's family is grateful and wants to sincerely thank the nurses, aides, therapists, and rest of staff from Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice (CVHH & H) for the compassionate care of our beloved husband, father and grandfather. We also want to thank the caring staff of A.W. Rich Funeral Home in Essex Junction, Vermont for their services.

Private burial will be at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center, Vermont on Wednesday, June 17, 2015. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial contributions to Central Vermont Home Health & Hospice, Inc., 600 Granger Road, Barre, VT. 05641.
