Work and golf

My favorite Fred story was the time when a new worker in our department at IBM had the opportunity to attend a meeting with Fred. In the meeting, Fred and another co-worker were having a rather heated discussion, which impressed the new worker. But on the way out of the meeting, Fred and his co-worker were discussing when they would get together to play golf. The new worker, not knowing Fred well at that point, later told me "I couldn't believe it. They had just been arguing like they were going to kill each other, and the next minute they are making plans to play golf together."
Fred wasn't nearly as gruff as he sometimes wanted you to believe!
